Memorial Service (Sat 8/21 @2)

The memorial service for Jack will be held on Saturday 8/21 at 2pm.  It will be held at the University of Northern Colorado in the Columbine Suites (in the University Center).

For those who cannot make it we will be hosting a video presentation that Cassie and I put together here on lifetransplanet.  It will be posted at 2pm.  This is the same video we will be watching together at UNC.

Jack at a Young Age

I Thought I Taw a Puddy Cat

Well, I thought I saw a cat the night the chickens were attacked. It jumped like a cat, it was black and sleek, had a long, thin tail and nails that scratched the front of the coop upon its return.  I think I may have talked myself out of it being a cat because we’ve never had any problems with cats and the chickens.  Ever.

I got a trap on loan from a guy I work with and figured we could try to catch whatever it was.

Setting up the trap

First we had to set the trap. On our first attempt we actually caught…Kitty! So we had to bring him inside for the night. Then, about 2:30am, I heard the SNAP of the trap. I ran out to see what we caught. I couldn’t tell right away, but with the mewing I knew it was a cat. I left him out there till the sun rose and when I looked in, it was Atchpay!  Atchpay completely tweaked out, he looks a bit psycho now…

Guess who? Atchpay

This stray that frequents our backyard fits the description of the perpetrator and got snagged in the trap about the same time.  So we decided to relocate him just in case.  He is pretty feral and definitely wasn’t comfortable being that close to me.   We drove about 10 miles north of town.  Cassie wanted to go further, but I felt we had gone far enough.  We will see.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with how a live trap works, Schnoodle will demonstrate the live trap. We put cheese in there all the way to the back, when she steps on the lever it shuts behind her.

Survey Says…A Cassie Work Project

Last night I went to one of Cassie’s work events where they were presenting the results of some surveys and other projects like Photovoice that she had been working on related to youth access to tobacco in the Latino community. It was really interesting and I always feel like there needs to be more done to help the next generation not fall for the tobacco industry’s tactics to get youth hooked. Because let’s face it, if no kids ever started, they’d be out of business.

Cassie with some people involved in the project

Cassie was the MC and helped with the introductions, welcome and closing. They had a lot of interesting data and ideas where to go from here regarding policies, like for example requiring a license to sell tobacco, not allowing children under 18 to sell, not selling flavored or loose tobacco singles, and advertising restrictions. They also had some interesting results about why people don’t view tobacco as a crisis or urgent issue even though it clearly is.

Overall, it was an interesting and different Wednesday night from the norm. Good job, Cassie!

P.S. They had enchiladas! Yum

Everything Fits in a Honda Civic

I’ve used the Civic for lots of things.  Building fences, remodeling houses, putting in sprinkler systems and now hauling rocks.  (Thanks to Pioneer Sand and Gravel company for being so cool about it -they only charged us a tiny fee ($5) for all these rocks!) The Honda looked like a low rider with about 400 lbs of rocks!  I’m always amazed at what I can fit in this thing!  We’ve moved trees including our peach tree even (sticking out the sunroof).

Lots of rocks

As I was driving home I noticed I am not the only one that tries to use their car for doing everything. This car has their carpet strapped to their car.  It made me laugh how its stuffed into the rear spoiler.
