We Have Arrived in Rincon!

We got into Aguadilla at about 1:30am last night (local time).  The flight was uneventful to Newark and from Newark into Aguadilla.  We got our rental car and headed for the property.  It was pretty dark and traffic was light (obviously).  We got here and vines had covered up the front gate.  I got out of the car and started tearing them off by hand.  I got enough of them off, so that the gate would slide open and drove on in.

Rental Car This Morning

The weeds appear to have grown quite a bit in 8 months.  It’s about what I expected to see though and isn’t too bad.  We were able to drive the car right in over top of the ‘weeds’ and park.  I went into the small cabana not exactly knowing what to expect.  It looked about the same except the paint on the ceiling had continued to flake off, so there was quite a bit of paint chips on the bed and floor.   A quick sweeping took care of that.  We dusted off the bed and got out our covers/blankets we stashed from the last visit.  Other than a few weird noises we went to sleep pretty easily.

The Concrete “Cabana”

I feel that the first order of business will to be to get a trimmer and maybe some paint / paint supplies from the store.  That way we can start to carve out a nice spot for ourselves, then expand the spot as we move along.  We also want to get some plumbing done and maybe some more bees removed while we are here.

The bees that were removed on the last trip have stayed gone, so that’s a good sign that it won’t be a futile attempt.

A Most Useless Place, The Waiting Place.

Well….We tried to head out to Puerto Rico today but the Universe stopped us.  We have our bags packed, our plane tickets bought, a rental car reserved and we had been screened by security at the airport.   We even got on the plane!  There we waited.  It was announced that something was wrong with the air conditioner.  Then after about 2 hours of sitting in the plane at the gate, it was announced that something had to be fixed that controlled the cabin pressure.

I am more inclined to think that the pilots didn’t have AC and they didn’t want to fly..lol.

So we had to de-plane, reschedule our trip for tomorrow and call my mom to pick us up.  (Thanks Moms! Cassie’s mom for taking us twice and my mom for the emergency pick up today)

Waiting in Line at DIA to Reschedule Our Flight

Hopefully things work out better tomorrow.  We are going to get in touch with the airline too, as they wasted an entire day for us.  Maybe they will respond with something in return, but I’ve never gone thru this so I don’t know what that might be?

Until Tomorrow (DIA)

It reminds me of a Dr Seuss book I read once (an excerpt from Oh, The Places You’ll Go)”

You can get so confused
that you’ll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The Waiting Place…
…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

NO!That’s not for you!

Somehow you’ll escape
all that waiting and staying.
You’ll find the bright places
where Boom Bands are playing.

Waiting in the Living Room (aka our Hotel Lobby)

Not Chickens

Looks like it is going to snow here in Colorado this weekend.   It’s been a nice few days with highs in the 50’s.  It makes me think of spring but we are still at least 5 months away from things starting to grow again.

We are planning a trip to Rincon soon which will be awes0me. We are looking forward to seeing the place after almost 9 months away! Not sure what to expect, but the gloomy weather here can drag on a person so it will be good to see some sunshine and green plants!

The geese are migrating this time of year and apparently found some food in our yard which was kind of interesting.

Not Chickens

We (Greeley) are on a flight path for migrations each year and we get thousands of these guys as visitors on their way from Canada.  They stop at all the lakes in town and since our house is in between 2 ponds they occasionally stop by to say hi.  They don’t usually come into the yards to eat though…lol.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

I woke up today in my warm house while outside it is a chilly 7 degrees.  Thinking about this I realized that it’s completely normal for me.  I live in a place where if you didn’t have shelter, you could quite possibly die.  It’s always amazing to me that people selected this as a place to live.  Sure in the summer it’s nice and warm day and night, but what kind of marketing did they have to use to get us here?

I figured I’d go for a walk and I snapped a few pictures to share.

We Carve Paths thru the Snow and Ice

I suppose for some people that haven’t ever lived or visted a winter wonderland stuff like this would be pretty fascinating.  It will be fun to make Puerto Rican friends that haven’t ever seen snow!

The Frost Clings to Surfaces in the Night

We have a pond in the center of our subdivision.  It’s got a lot of ice over most of it, but this end must be a bit warmer.  I thought the vapor dancing on the surface was cool and took a short video.

It looks like we will have a white Christmas.  This snow is going to stick around for a few days at least!  This is all so normal to me, much like the Rocky Mountains.  Heck we live right up against them and I hardly ever go, I’ve been so many times and it’s so “normal” that I haven’t taken time to blog about them.  This is a reason why Puerto Rico fascinates me, it’s a whole new world.  A world where they don’t bury water lines for fear of freezing pipes and houses aren’t built with pitched roofs to keep the weight of snow from crushing them.  Seems absurd to me.   LOL
