Lucky Number 7 in Fort Collins and the Swetsville Zoo

7 Years of a great marriage!

Today marks our seventh wedding anniversary. We took the day off work and decided to have some fun. We went down to Fort Collins and stopped into the Swetsville Zoo which is right off Harmony and I-25.

Swetsville Zoo

This is not a zoo in the usual sense of the word. It is more of a Dr. Seuss, Tim Burton kind of mad wonderland. And it’s awesome! I hadn’t been since I was a kid and Britton hadn’t ever been! It has free admission and lots of creative creatures made out of scarp metal all over. I would recommend everyone check it out. Here are some of the fun things we saw!

Scary!

It’s cool that it’s right on the river!

After our self-guided tour, we were starving! We had only eaten brunch so, we headed for an early dinner at, our favorite restaurant, Bisettii’s!

Then we walked around Fort Collins a little and stopped in a few shops.

We ended our adventure at O’dell’s brewery where they had hula-hoops!! The whole day was so much fun!! A great way to celebrate our special day!

Golfing at Highland Hills in Greeley

Our friends Kelly and Todd invited us to go play golf with them yesterday. Kelly had never been and I had only been once (with my Aunt Annie and Uncle Larry). So we figured it would be a pretty low-key day, and since this is our anniversary weekend we thought we could spend the money to have a little fun. Golfing, even at a public course like Highland Hills in Greeley, is really pretty expensive. But at least it takes quite a bit of time. We just played nine holes, which was plenty! It still took us three hours!

We met up at the Outback restaurant which is over by Boomerang Golf course, but they didn’t have any tee-times available. So we called Higland Hills and they had some open.

So we drove over to Highland Hills and did a few practice shots with wiffle balls first.

Practicing

Half the fun of golfing is driving around in the little electric golf carts and scooping up the wayward balls.

Fun in the golf cart

We were just going to play with one set of golf clubs (the same set that our friend Matt let Britton borrow from before -Thanks Matt!), but the golf dude came up to us and said we each had to have a set of golf clubs. That is so dumb! What does it matter? Except to make them money from renting out the golf clubs (at $15 a set!).

Kelly golfing

It was gorgeous day and a lot of fun just zipping around. We just played a “scramble” as Todd called it where you just play the best ball. Britton and Todd could really hit the ball hard, but they hooked to the left and right a lot. I can hit it pretty straight, but not very far. Still, we played a few of both mine and Kelly’s balls because Britton’s and Todd’s were so far out! Lol. I thought Kelly did really good for her first time!! You can read about her experience with it as a Golf Virgin here. We had a great day! Golf is definitely a leisure sport that you just can’t take too seriously. I mean in what other sport can you drink beer and drive a vehicle around and it is perfectly acceptable?!  Haha, anyhow it was pretty fun! 🙂

BBQ and the Greeley Arts Picnic

We’ve had a fun weekend so far. I am part of a women’s coaching group and thought it would be nice to have everyone come over to our house with their significant other. We made shish-kabobs and fruit salad. We also had some cheese and crackers. For more details on the food check it out here. Anyhow, we had a great time. Everyone loved playing with the chickens, checking out the jungle greenhouse, touring the house, listening to music and sitting in the backyard “terrarium” where we had a nice cool cloud cover.

Then this morning Britton and I took a bike ride down to the GreeleyArts Picnic where we checked out the various wares for sale and met up with a friend who had forgotten something at our house during the party. So we brought it to her. I wish every day was filled with such great people and fun times!

A Peach Disaster

Britton was sitting out on the front porch this evening when he heard…”cccrreeaak” and then he saw a huge branch of the peach tree split from the tree. It was so heavy with peaches that it just fell down! We harvested all the hard peaches and we’ll see if they will ripen up, but the tree looks super weird and bare now. Hopefully it will live through the damage! We love peaches and were looking forward to the bumper crop. There are still quite a lot on the tree, but Britton pulled a few off the other branches that looked to be drooping too much.

Britton with the fallen branchit’s pretty good sized!

Peaches that we had to remove just from that one branch! Bummer! But they may be saveable/edible
