Los Tubos and Mar Chiquita, Manati

Walking the beach of Los Tubos

A couple of weeks ago we had to go to Manati on the north coast of Puerto Rico to get another sonogram done at Manati Medical Center. Since we were out and about already, we decided to stop and see some of the beaches there. We stopped at Los Tubos as well as Mar Chiquita. They are gorgeous beaches, but the water is surprisingly cooler on the Atlantic side than on our Caribbean side!

Gorgeous, long stretches of beach!

Fun, strange creatures at the balneario like this shark (can you find Britton?)

You can escape!

Turtle time!

Not exactly sure what this is? A chupacabra?

The beautiful bay of Mar Chiquita was just down the way about 5 minutes from Los Tubos

Playa Buye, Cabo Rojo

The other day we decided to take a spur of the moment day trip to Cabo Rojo to see Playa Buye, a favorite beach in Puerto Rico. We had heard of its splendid white sands and turquoise waters and couldn’t wait to see it for ourselves.

Playa Buye

This beach didn’t disappoint. The waters were calm, warm and serene and the beach was long and sandy. I loved the brightly painted houses and shops right on the water as well as some pretty cool graffiti art. This is a popular beach and it was summertime which means a lot more people. There were lots of stereos and people hanging out drinking from their coolers. I would recommend avoiding weekends in the summer if at all possible or you will be unlikely to find parking or a spot on the beach. Farther down the way near a little coconut cove it was much more peaceful and you could even see a fisherman wading out into the flat seas. I would love to try snorkeling there as well some time! The sun was intense, but it made for gorgeous photos. Check it out.

A Long Overdue Visit From Mom

It had been 3 and 1/2 years since I have seen my mom! Far too long! She came out for a visit and stayed in our little cabana for about a week. We crammed in a lot of activities and everyone was super worn out by the end of the week. But I am so glad I got to see her. The next time we see her she will get to meet her grandson and we are all so excited about that! Here are a few photos from our adventures.

The Rincon Marina and the Goat House

We have been working hard on the farm, but it was a nice break to go out to a fun little beach gathering at the Marina on a Monday afternoon. Because why not?

After playing around for a couple of hours, someone had a great idea to drive up to the Goathouse to watch the sunset. The Goathouse is something of landmark for Rincon. I don’t know the whole story behind it, but it was obviously going to be an awesome rotunda house with a 180 view down to the Marina but long ago got caught in some building/legal trouble and became another abandoned property. Many surfers use it to check the waves in the morning (Dawn Patrol). And it has awesome sunsets only 1 minute from the beach so we caravanned up to it.

I am not totally sure where it got the name Goathouse, but I have heard that it has housed more goats than people in its current iteration though none were present when we were there.

Another cool site to see in Rincon

If you visit the Goathouse, remember that there are neighbors and they want you gone right after sunset so as to avoid too much mischief. Definitely check it out though as it is a key part of the fabric of Rincon!
