We’ve seen quite a few Colorado quarters since we have the Denver Mint right near here, but I recently ran across a Puerto Rico “state” quarter. I was holding it upside down and said to Britton, “Wow, this quarter looks like Puerto Rico”. I had no idea that they had made a quarter for it. I thought the design was pretty cool. The first thing that ran through my mind was, “Is Puerto Rico going to become a state?” since I thought these quarters were only for states.
But apparently, it is also for districts like Washington D.C. and the territories as well, although I haven’t seen any other quarters for territories such as the US Virgin Islands, Guam or any of the other outlying islands but they supposedly exist. If Puerto Rico were to become a state, it would change a lot of things about it. Some for the better and some for the worse.
According to an article on the Puerto Rico quarter it has one of the fewest mintings ever for a quarter which also made it seem extra special and rare.
Wow, I did not know that PR had it’s own quarter, where did you get it? I would love to get one too.
I bought one when they first came out from Ebay. It cost me $1 though lol. But I wanted it anyway so I paid it
I will check Ebay, thanks,
Hey Rosa,
Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. That site that I linked to had an option to buy as well, when I clicked it, it goes to Ebay so that might be the best place as Cris mentioned. I just found mine in some change and didn’t even realize what it was. At first I just thought it was cool and looked like PR lol. I’ve only seen the one though.
Also, most local banks have the state quarters program going on which might be a place to try…and they should sell them to you for the actual value (25 cents). You could try the bank first and see. Banks have alll the different and unusual currencies like $2 bills, the Sacajawea (sp??) dollar coins and others. I know a lot of people are trying to get all 50 states plus this extra series in this program, so there should be some available.
When we did a fundraiser for Boy Scouts someone had tons of the Guam quarters. Kinda strange…
Guam? That does seem a bit strange.
Hey, I got some PR quarters, how neat! Thanks for the info.
wow it looks great!! but u.s mint should only print state quarters. i would love for it to become a state.
