I went out to get the eggs and had noticed that Henrietta had been on the nest for most of the day. I think she’s getting a little broody now that she’s getting old (about 3 years old). I thought this video was kind of cool from the perspective of the chickens.
Did you know that broody hens will starve to death if ignored? We know you have no rooster sooooo?
MIL, We make sure that she gets up and gets something to eat and drink even though she doesn’t want to. What I understand about broody hens is that they only get off the nest once per day to eat, drink and deficate, so I don’t think she would starve anyway (or how would they raise the baby chicks in nature?), but it is not the most comfortable of “jobs” to choose especially if they are not fertilized!
