Good for you! Advocacy for ” certain level of freedom to pursue our interests in our own backyard without hassle or interference”. Amen to that.
I thought the comments about your article were interesting, too. El Gato doesn’t like Greeley much, and worries about backyard chicken slaughter (must have lived in the barrio in L.A.). I’ll ask our son about any problems they may have in Long Beach (Dave is the Animal Control supervisor for the City), but I don’t think they have many with non dogs and cats. Dogs are their number one nuisance and pit bulls are their number 1 number 1.
It is good to think a little about animal abuse and be proactive about abuse prevention even in our food factories, as their are some people with no love of critter life. We had a neighbor who chained his lab PUPPY up for over 6 months, a miserable thing to watch. Finally the city made them give up the dog. Utah now has a law that says you can only tie a dog up for a max of 10 hours a day, still too long in my opinion.
To get back to your article: you are promoting animal welfare with pet hens by taking business away from the food factory chicken operations. Let’s hope responsible pet ownership doesn’t need more regulation because of a few clueless and/or cruel people.
