Mudjacking Front Porch

Britton had been worried about our front porch concrete area as it seemed each year it was falling more and more. We were starting to get water running into the garage and in the winter, it would cause an icy, dangerous area when anyone walked up to our door partly because it was shaded on the north side of the house and was draining toward the garage. So, Britton convinced me that it was a structural issue and not cosmetic, so we forked over the $450 to get it mudjacked. It was pretty interesting to watch them pump so much concrete under the porch (it hadn’t started to fall, but was an empty cave underneath and they suggested it for preventive reasons) and then raise the walkway.

I think it looks pretty good except I don’t like the hole/spots all up and down our walkway and I think they raised it slightly too high in one area. Overall, Britton says it will do it’s function better now, so I think it was worth it.

Leadership Weld County 2009-2010

I was recently accepted into a program called Leadership Weld County.  This is a program that is hosted through the Greeley Chamber of Commerce in order to develop leaders in the community and educate them about our area a little bit more.  It has thus far been a great experience and I am looking forward to the October outing. It meets once a month until May and we do various activities, team building, a community project and visit area organizations and businesses.

Last month in September, we got to go to a Challenge Course. We played all sorts of physical and mental games and got to know each other better. I even jumped off a 30 foot pole to a trapeze bar! It was scary and cool. We also did a personality test called DISC. I was somewhat surprised with the results, but it was fun.

My friend Kelly from work was in the LWC class last year and she encouraged me to join and my supervisor at work concurred. It is somewhat expensive (about $500) but I received a scholarship and work paid for the rest. My other friend Jamie is in the class this year so it is fun to spend time with her as well.  Here is a short news article about this new leadership class.
