Where to Buy Baby Chicks in Greeley area

We have been asked a few times where to buy baby chicks in the Greeley and Northern Colorado area. This is the list that we know of so far. I’ll add to it as I find others. If you see a place that is a feed store, a ranch supply store, or a mercantile of some sort, it might be good to stop in. Most of the time you can only find baby chicks in spring time around this area. For full-grown birds, check the Foco craigslist out. I would call these places first before driving over, especially if you are looking for a certain breed of baby chicks.

If you are planning on buying more than 5 or so, you should probably order direct from the hatchery (like McMurrays or Welp, etc). They will deliver the day-old chicks direct to you through the post office, but be sure to pick them up right away.

Blog Connections and Cinzzetti’s

We were contacted by someone who left a comment on this blog. His name is George and he wanted to know what we knew about Puerto Rico because he had some business ideas that he would like to see go to Puerto Rico.  We exchanged emails a few times and decided it would be fun to meet up in person.

So since they live in Colorado Springs and we live here in Greeley, we decided to meet at a halfway point. I thought Cinzzetti’s in Northglenn would be perfect since it is right off I-25. It’s an Italian Buffet restaurant.

With George and Sandy at Cinzzetti’s

We had a lovely meal and time with George and his wife Sandy. They are trying to start a new business sort of like Avon where they sell supplements direct to customers. It sounded interesting and we told him about our connections with Awilda and the naturalists in Puerto Rico.

I don’t think we would probably sell the products ourselves, but you never know. It seems a bit too pricey, and I’m not much for sales. I read a little about glutathione (one of the major ingredients in these products) later on. It is an important nutrient and energy source in our bodies, but I was surprised and happy to see that milk thistle also makes glutathione more abundant in the body. Milk thistle is what we gave our dog Schnoodle when she was really sick and jaundiced with some sort of liver disease as I mentioned before. Milk thistle, unlike some of these supplements, is also dirt cheap and the weed grows all around here.

So anyhow, it was a fun adventure and another example of how our blog connects us to the world around us with people of similar interests. Thanks George and Sandy for the meal and a very nice time. We wish you luck on your journey and hope that our roads will perhaps intersect again in the future.

Josephine B. Jones Park in Greeley

Britton and I love to take walks. We try to walk for 20-40 minutes every day. It’s a great way to spend time together, vent and decompress from our day and of course get some exercise. Usually we take Schnoodle and go around Ramseier Farm Park as it is next to our neighborhood. It is a great park and everyone is out with their kids and dogs. And often when we are just driving around we go to Bittersweet Park or Sandborn (Westlake) Park. We also absolutely love Glenmere Park. That is probably our favorite.

But sometimes going to the same old parks gets, well, old. Today was lovely weather so after we did a few errands we decided to take a walk. But where? I told Britton I wanted to go to a park I hadn’t ever been. Was that possible in Greeley? He remembered a park that he had been to as a kid, and I’m so glad he did. It’s called the Josephine Jones Park in Greeley after an active Greeleyite. Here’s a little history of Josephine B. Jones.

Me at Josephine Jones Park

It is a beautiful expanse of xeriscaped land (apprx 36 acres) that stretches from the former home of Jones at 2631 52nd Ave Ct in Greeley (now the Greeley Forestry Department’s headquarters) all the way nearly to Highway 34 on the south. It crosses the ditch and has a small pond, playground area and a gravel walking path. Quite a few joggers were zipping past us enjoying less impact on their joints and the natural area.

Park looking southeast toward the pond and playground equipment

It was a happy surprise similar to Houston Gardens or Evans Riverside Park. I definitely think we’ll be back! What a nice park.

Gorgeous Orchids

I love orchids. I had always heard how hard they are to grow, but they’re not! Really they’re easy! Especially for someone like me who always forgets to water plants. They like to get dried out between waterings so it is so simple! Just wait till the sphagnum is dry then water until it’s moist again. They really don’t need any fertilizers or even dirt because they are epiphytes or air plants. They derive what they need straight out of the air and water! Like magic.

Another great thing I love about orchids is their bloom length and time. The blooms of these orchids stay on for months on end. They unfurl one at a time until the whole thing is covered in flowers for a month or two. I love that they start budding in January or February and bloom right before everything else in the yard wakes up. They are great indoors here in Colorado and perfect in the tropics as well!

The Kitchen table is getting full of orchids

It is one collection I don’t mind increasing! 🙂
